Shitty Schedules and Time

For most people maintaining a schedule is a necessity, Most jobs are painfully demanding in that regard. The morning routine involves many steps just to get out of the door on time. Drugs to take, coffee to make, bowel movements, habits/rituals, animals to be fed and/or walked, fucking kids really add to the mayhem and it's an exponential jump with every child involved and don't forget vehicle maintenance, nothing like a big bird turd right in the middle of the field of view and no washer fluid after you've already hit the button and it smears across the entire windshield...it's enough to make you cuss.

Traffic congestion is as bad as ever and everyone has to stop and look at the poor mother fucker changing a flat tire on the side of the road during rush hour. People still texting after the light turns green making it worse.

When I was going to tech school in Tampa in the early 80's I passed by a guy slumped over in his car at a stop light, holding up rush hour downtown Tampa traffic and I flicked a bird and hollered and honked the horn like everyone else.

When I watched the news that evening it was revealed someone had shot the guy and he was deader than a door nail for half an hour before anyone checked on him, setting there light after light because goddamn it we got to be ON TIME.

Mother Nature does what it wants when it wants and yet we still have to be on time, expected to anticipate any and all things that may prevent you from being on time and compensating your departure time accordingly.

I once had a boss that believes a person should start their day an hour earlier to prevent being late to a low dough job without benefits not taking into consideration the reality of the modern world. Some day care centers won't open an hour early just to accommodate an asshole boss. Who the fuck wants to hang around work for even a half an hour more than is absolutely required? That's the way it is for most workers.

On the farm the day starts with with a natural rhythm that I always found to be pleasant not so much the chores though.

The musician schedule has always worked best for me. I don't do the all nighters any longer but then again I got issues that won't allow me to keep up.

I've worked for a lot of assholes in the music scene that expected you to start on time, play 45 minutes, break for 15 minutes and be on stage counting off the next song at the top of the hour. That's ok when it's slow but when you are not allowed to make a glass of water and it's a packed night good luck getting a drink, a piss and take requests in 15 minutes. We weren't allowed to drink on stage not even water, talk about ASSHOLES...

I've dealt with asshole club owners and/or their minions that would deduct money from our pay for being a minute late starting a set to fining us for playing 5 minutes over because they were losing money on the juke box.

I've been handed lists with "banned" songs because the ownwer didn't pay for the ascap/bmi license which basically left nothing to play except originals which the bar didn't want us to play and was also a $50 fine for every original...For what fucking end? Just to be an ASSHOLE?

Still playing music was something I could do that didn't suck as bad as a real job and no drug tests plus it was a lot easier to be on time at 9pm as opposed to 7am.

Now I do the early tiki time gigs and get home by midnight. That's what sobriety will do to you. Peace and Love!
