"SATIN SHEETS" by LSG

I had always played with a band but the venues for live bands 5-7 nights a week were drying up.

Karaoke, DJ's and noise ordinances were just some of the things killing the bands. More and more places were hiring "band-in-the-box" solo and duo acts. I'm a band guy.

When it came to making $18 on a twelve hour cab shift during slow season or working up a solo show the choice was obvious so I decided I wasn't going to be the cheesy "band-in-the-box" guy. I was also told NOT to play country because NO ONE down here likes it.

As I was struggling through my third solo show trying to play Beatles and whatever new songs that NO ONE was responding to I said to myself, "Fuck it" and launched into a set of the songs I used to do around the campfire with my friends and on the front porch with my old man.

Dottie Willis walked up and wanted to know who had originally done this song and became the first person to give me any reaction to my fledgling solo efforts. She also requested some Merle Haggard and I have been in love with Dottie ever since.

Very quickly I discovered an untapped market for "outlaw" style country music and the days of spending 12 hours at fruitless endeavors were replaced by 3 - 4 hours of playing the songs I grew up on. LSG
